That amount does not change if you add or drop courses unless you cross the hour threshold. Students who are not Georgia residents when they graduate high school will not meet residency requirements for the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships until 24 months after they establish domicile in Georgia. If that date falls after the start of a semester, the student will not meet residency requirements for the scholarships until the following semester.
Example: Frank graduated from a high school in Texas. Frank is granted in-state residency for tuition purposes by UGA, but he will not meet residency requirements for the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships until September 2, which is 24 months after the date he established domicile. Since that date is after the start of Fall semester, we would not be able to determine his eligibility for the HOPE Scholarship until the following semester, Spring HOPE Scholarship recipients must maintain a 3.
Zell Miller Scholarship Recipients must maintain a 3. If you are otherwise eligible, you can continue to receive the scholarship through HOPE Attempted or Paid hours, whichever comes first.
While you can lose HOPE at the Spring semester checkpoint, you can only regain eligibility at the 30, 60, and 90 attempted hours benchmarks. All students must maintain a 3. Award amounts are determined annually by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. To view the current award amounts, please visit GSFC's website. The amount of a student's HOPE Scholarship is ultimately based on the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled each semester, not to exceed payment for a maximum of 15 semester hours.
The initial award amount assumes the maximum HOPE amount hour rate for which the student is eligible each semester. The HOPE award amount will be reduced when students enroll in fewer than 15 hours and will adjust at the time of disbursement of financial aid. HOPE Scholarship eligibility is limited to attempted or paid hours, or the first bachelor's degree - whichever occurs first.
After you register for summer classes, our office will review you for summer aid eligibility. They review your transcript data and determine if you have the required 3.
There is no minimum number of hours required to receive the HOPE Scholarship at Georgia College since we are a public university but you are limited to receiving a maximum of 15 hours per semester. Attempted-Hours include all classes taken after high school graduation.
All withdrawals, dropped classes, transfer hours, and non-credit courses are counted in Attempted-Hours. This link appears on the Financial Aid menu on the Student tab. All students have two 2 different types of "checkpoints". The first is called the "Spring Checkpoint".
The second type is your "Tier Checkpoint". It is important that you understand the hours that are included in the definition of "Attempted-Hours". These GPAs could be the same or could be different. This includes both grades when retaking a course, grades for non-credit coursework and all transfer grades even if courses are not accepted at Georgia College or paid for by HOPE. Also, grades for courses taken prior to high school graduation such as joint enrollment, CLEP or AP credit are not counted.
The college or university you are attending will determine your eligibility after you have attempted the required hours. Create an Account Sign In Help. Sign Out Help. Our Websites. Social Media.
